Why Censor Board Barred Dev Patel's Monkey Man From Release in India?

Despite making the relevant changes, CBFC is reportedly avoiding the screening of Dev Patel starter Monkey Man for the Examining Committee purposely.

Dev Patel's Monkey Man was in the news in April as the movie was not cleared to be released in India owing to objectionable scenes. Now, multiple reports suggest that the movie remains uncleared even after two months. According to a source in a media portal, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has "thwarted its release without formally banning it" by not screening the movie for the advisory panel.

Will Monkey Man release in India?

A leading media portal quoted a source saying that the CBFC has avoided the screening of the movie for the Examining Committee purposely. The movie was slated to release in India on April 19. It happened despite the changes made by Universal Studios which is clipping the scenes which emphasised the nexus between religion and politics. They also changed the colour of the political banners from saffron to red.

According to both the Cinematograph (Certification) Rules, notified in March and the one that existed in the 1983 version, there is a five-day deadline for a movie to be referred to the Examining Committee. This deadline was passed in May and yet the movie was not screened by the censors.

What else do we know about Monkey Man?

American action thriller film directed and produced by Dev Patel also Sobhita Dhulipala, Sharlto Copley, Pitobash and Vipin Sharma in supporting roles. The plot centres on a forest villager seeking revenge against corrupt authority figures. An anonymous young man unleashes a campaign of vengeance against the corrupt leaders who murdered his mother and continue to systematically victimize the poor and powerless.

Where to watch Monkey Man?

Monkey Man is currently streaming on Peacock TV. According to Koimoi, the movie will be accessible on the American streaming service which started on Friday, June 14, 2024.
