IIT Bombay Students' Dance On Malaika's Munni Badnaam Leaves Netizens Divided: Isme Ashleel Kya Hai?

A video from the Indian Institute of Technology ( IIT ) Bombay has gone viral on social media. The clip shows students dancing on Munni Badnaam at a college event. The video has left the internet divided. The song was originally filmed on Malaika Arora in the film Dabangg. 

Social media users slam IIT students performance on Munni Badnaam 

Social media users have objected to the video. Multiple users shared the video which reportedly IIT student group dancing to Munni Badnaam. The identity of the college was not visible in the video and IIT Bombay has also not issued a statement on the matter. In the clip, a female dancer can be seen performing on stage in a skirt while other students join in. 

A user took to their social media to share, “Item dance in IIT Bombay”. Another wrote, “So colleges are also promoting this kind of shit.” Another comment read, “People go to IIT to study, then what is happening?” Some even deemed the dance as ‘vulgar’ and not ‘appropriate’ for a professional setting. A user mentioned, “ITT Bombay. What a prestigious institute! What a downfall!!” 

Netizens defend the Munni Badnaam dance 
 

While one section of social media was furious, another defended the performance. A user argued that there is nothing wrong with dancing to a song popularised by Bollywood. A user wrote, “People who can't enter the gates of prestigious colleges should refrain from moral policing these meritorious students." Another wrote, “Nothing vulgar about this”. A user also mentioned that co-curricular activist in colleges are essential for overall development and mental wellbeing of students.
