Who was Sukumara Kurup?

Sukunara Kurup said to be around 35 at time of crime, has been a fugitive and a wanted criminal for Kerala Police since 1984 for crime, which got name 'Chacko murder'. He was accused of killing a man named Chacko, who bore resemblance to him, to pass off as his own death. 

He allegedly committed crime to fetch insurance amount, said to be worth Rs 8 crore.  Kurup is said to have thought of idea after reing about a similar case in Germany. He was kwn for his lavish lifestyle and considered it when reports of Gulf company he was working in, laying off employees, while his home was being built in Kerala, surfaced.

incident took place around January 21-22 in Mavelikara in Kerala 1984. He committed crime with three ors. He got his driver Ponnappan and bror-in-law Bhaskara Pillai, Shahu, his colleague from Gulf company he was working in, onboard, by offering m a share of amount.

After initially planning to arrange a corpse from a hospital and n burning it, y finally decide to commit a murder. y stumbled upon Chacko, a film representative, who y felt matched physical characteristics of Kurup, while he was returning home after watching a movie. y offered him a lift, and in car, gave him alcohol laced with poison and n strangulated him. y n burnt his body in an Ambassor car. 

Though police initially claimed that Kurup died in car fire, or details, like presence of poison in his stomach, and missing complaint filed by Chacko's family n led to joining of dots. 

Police, t just in Kerala, but across country, me attempts to find him after his appearances were reported in various parts. y would probe details when news of his visit, like for a family fuction, would surface. A nurse who treated him once claimed he could t have lived till around 75, his likely today. Ponnappan and Bhaskara Pillai, co-accused in case, were sentenced to life imprisonment and Shahu turned an approver in case.

37 years on, re is information on his whereabouts, though some reports claiming that some lookalikes were spotted in Kerala and or regions h me helines in mid-2000s. It is stated that he fled abro after committing crime and various ories on what he did after that have surfaced, but Kerala Police records continue to mention him as 'wanted.'
