Kalki 2898 AD makers say film 'protected by copyright laws' post suing VFX company

Kalki 2898 AD is set against a futuristic backdrop with heavy mythological references. The cast of the film marked their presence at this year's Comic-Con.

Makers of the Nag Ashwin-directorial and Prabhas-led Kalki 2898 AD have shared a legal copyright notice on their official social media handle. This comes after Vyjayanthi Movies, the production house backing Kalki 2898 AD, took legal action against the VFX company working on the film. The copyright notice issued by the production house now declares them as the "exclusive owners" of all material pertaining to the film.

Kalki 2898 AD makers share legal copyright notice

Taking to their official X (formerly Twitter) account, Vyjanthi Movies shared the legal copyright notice asserting complete ownership of all materials pertaining to Kalki 2898 AD. Sharing of any scenes, images or footage from the film has been declared a "criminal offence punishable under the Copyright Act, 1957 and other statutes." The notice goes onto issue a warning that any individual found sharing content from the film, will have criminal proceedings initiated against them.

The post in question reads, "Legal Copyright Notice : #VyjayanthiMovies wishes to inform the public that #Kalki2898AD and all its components are protected by copyright laws. Sharing any part of the film, be it scenes, footage or images, is illegal and punishable. Legal action will be taken as needed, with the assistance of Cyber Police."

Kalki 2898 AD, which has reportedly been made on a massive budget of ₹600 crores, has previously fallen prey to leaks. Despite the airtight regulations surrounding the film, stills of Prabhas from the same surfaced on the internet and went viral. The VFX company in charge of the film, has reportedly been sued by the production house, demanding compensation.
