Rishab Shetty attained nationwide popularity for his 2022 action thriller Kantara, which won the National Award for Popular Film, providing wholesome entertainment and a Best Actor trophy. Now, the actor has finally spoken about the controversial remark he made regarding Bollywood that it portrayed India in a "bad light. During his appearance at IFFA Utsavam 2024, the Kannada actor stated that his statement was twisted and didn't mean it.

For the unversed, Rishab Shetty drew severe criticism and was heavily trolled over his remark against Bollywood. He had said, "Indian films, especially Bollywood, show India in a bad light. These art films are invited to global events and given a red carpet. My nation, my state, my language—my pride. Why not take it on a positive note globally, and that’s what I try to do.”

Rishab, during his appearance on the green carpet in Abu Dhabi, was asked to about his controversy. To this, he clarified, "Main kya bola tha wo thoda idhar udhar ho gaya. Clarification or explanation aagey main ek achi si jagah baith kar baat karenge (What I said got a bit twisted. I’ll give a clarification or explanation later when we sit down in a better setting and talk)."

At the IIFA Utsavam, the actor was honoured for his "Outstanding Excellence in Kannada Cinema."

What's next for Rishab Shetty?

The actor is preparing for the prequel of Kantara which is titled as Kantara: Chapter 1. The prequel will delve deeper into the lore of the Panchurli Deiva during the Kadamba era. Last year, the actor unveiled the first look. The movie is expected to hit the theatres in 2025.
