UP: Leopard enters school, kills a dog; terrified students hide in their classroom

A leopard in school was spotted recently in the Keeratpur village near the Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, where it killed a stray dog and terrified the students.

city of Pilibhit in Uttar Presh is infamous for its constant human-wildlife conflicts. Just recently, students of a school in small village of Keeratpur were terrified when y h a face to face encounter with a wild leopard. While none of students were harmed, leopard did kill a dog in area.

students of government school in Keeratpur first encountered leopard when it entered into school ground through an jacent field. leopard n killed a dog and dragged its carcass back to nearby Barahi forest.  Barahi forest is part of Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, which is infamous for its poor borders.

terrified students immediately ran into ir classrooms, locked doors and hid. According to an international news agency, once principal, Nidhi Diwakar, arrived at school, she was informed about incident by her students and she immediately called  forest department. Later, a field team from department, led by forest inspector Ajmer Yav, arrived at school and investigated its premises. y eventually found and photographed pugmarks.

Naveen Khandelwal, deputy of Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, stated that according to pugmarks, leopard was an ult. He also revealed that he h deployed a few armed forest personnel to school for safety of children. He was also hopeful that leopard would return to forest in a day or two. Meanwhile, parents have decided to accompany ir children to school. 

reserve holds several big cat species including tigers, leopards and more, and this is not first time that a wild predator from reserve h infiltrated human settlements. Just a few weeks ago, a half-eaten body of a 65-year-old villager was found inside reserve.
