Nivin Pauly: 'Chocolate Boy' Of Bangalore Days & Premam, Now Stands Accused Of Rape

Hema Committee Report: The #MeToo Movement has created an uproar in the Malayalam film industry and new names are coming to light every day. A 235-page redacted document revealed that approximately 10 to 15 male producers, directors, and actors, comprising a 'power group,' dominate Mollywood. In a startling turn of events, popular Malayalam actor Nivin Pauly's name has come up in an alleged rape complaint. The Premam actor, who is famous for portraying innocent, boy-next-door roles in movies, is now under scrutiny.

Bangalore Days actor accused of sexual assault

The Oonnukal Police in Ernakulam has charged Nivin Pauly and five others, including producer AK Sunil, under Section 376 of the IPC (Rape). The complainant claimed that Nivin lured her to Dubai with the promise of a film role and assaulted her in November 2023.

Following the complaint, the police conducted a preliminary investigation before filing charges against Nivin and five other individuals, including a film producer. Nivin is listed as the sixth accused.

Who is Nivin Pauly?

Nivin Pauly has been considered a Superstar of Malayalam movies since the year 2015. Nivin Pauly is renowned for portraying soft characters. His 'chocolate boy’ and ‘boy next door’ image has helped him make a name for himself in romantic comedy films and a few dark comedy dramas. 

After starting his career in 2010, Nivin has featured in nearly 50 movies so far. He is also one of the highest-paid actors in Mollywood.

Before making it big in the films, Nivin Pauly played supporting roles in some films. He was one of the leads in Vineeth Sreenivasan's directorial debut Malarvaadi Arts Club released in the year 2010. After this, the actor made short appearances in Traffic (2011) directed by Rajesh Pillai, The Metro (2011) directed by Bipin Prabhakar, Sevenes (2011) directed by Joshiy and Spanish Masala (2011) directed by Lal Jose.

Nivin made it big with Thattathin Marayathu, which was released in 2012. This movie was path-breaking for his career. The interfaith love story, co-starring Isha Talwar, was declared a blockbuster. He went on to feature in back-to-back hits like Neram (2013) directed by Alphonse Putharen, 5 Sundarikal (2013) directed by Sameer Thahir, 1983 (2014) directed by Abrid Shine, Ohm Shanthi Oshaana (2014) directed by Jude Anthany Joseph. Bangalore Days (2014) directed by Anjali Menon was also a huge success among youngsters and stands out in his filmography.

Personal life and awards

His other notable work was Premam, alongside Sai Pallavi, Neram and several others. In his personal life, Nivin Pauly has been married to Rinna Joy since 2010. Rinna comes from a Syrian Catholic Nasrani family in Kadavanthra and was Nivin's girlfriend during their college years. 

They have a son named Daveed. He has been a two-time recipient of the prestigious Kerala State Film Awards.
