Meet the real 'Kannur Squad' of Kerala

As per a report by Mathrubhumi, the Kannur Squad is a real-life team of police officers who investigate crimes and nab the accused miscreants from across Kerala. The team arrested criminals from inside and outside the state for over a decade spanning from 2007 till 2017. The team comprised K Manoj Kumar, P Vinod Kumar, Rafi Muhammad, C Sunil Kumar, CK Rajasekharan, K Jayarajan, and Reji Scaria and they were led by Baby George.

What was the real-life tragic incident that inspired Kannur Squad?

On August 4, 2013, a horrific incident unfolded in the house of an industrialist named Abdul Salam Haji. He was a native of Kasaragod. As per reports, a gang of robbers broke into his house at night and looted his house after attacking his family members. On realising that no more money was left in the house to take away, the goons killed Abdul and fled the scene.

The murder came as a shocker to the police officials as the house was equipped with security facilities and CCTVs. Following this, the Kannur Squad went on a mission to nab the accused people. The team nabbed the culprits from 6000 km away from the scene of the crime. The movie starring Mammootty has been inspired by this incident but the film added several other elements to make the visuals more intense.
