Kerala Government Honours The Actors Of All We Imagine As Light For Their Cannes Win
Payal Kapadia’s feature directorial debut is the first Indian film in 30 years to be screened in the main competition of the prestigious film gala.

The Kerala government honoured actors Kanu Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Hridhu Haroon, and Aziz Nedumangad for their roles in the film All We Imagine As Light on June 13. The film won the Grand Prix award at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. Directed by Payal Kapadia, the film received critical acclaim and a standing ovation at Cannes.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan shared a photo with the cast on his X (formerly Twitter) page. He wrote, "Honoured the four Malayali actors Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Azees Nedumangad & Hridhu Haroon who played main roles in the Grand Prix-winning film ‘All We Imagine as Light’ at @Festival_Cannes. Also, congratulated others who made Indian cinema proud at Cannes. In the wake of the Kuwait tragedy, the ceremony was held without any festivities. Wishing all the artists greater success in future (sic)."
Additionally, cinematographer Santosh Sivan was honoured for receiving the Pierre Angenieux ExcelLens in Cinematography Award.
All We Imagine As Light wows Cannes audience
Kapadia’s feature directorial debut, which screened received glowing reviews in the international press, is the first Indian film in 30 years and first ever by an Indian female director to be screened in the main competition of the prestigious film gala. At the closing ceremony on May 25, as the winners in the main competition were announced, the Indian feature film, set in Mumbai and Ratnagiri, was bestowed with the second most prestigious prize at Cannes by the jury of the festival, headed by Greta Gerwig.
The film stars Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam and Hridhu Haroon. It lost the festival's top prize, Palme d'Or, to Anora by Sean Baker. The last Indian movie to be selected for the main competition was Shaji N Karun’s 1994 movie Swaham.
