Hindustani classical singer, Pandit Chhannulal Mishra was conferred with prestigious Pma Vibhushan 2020 on Monday, November 8. award is India’s second-highest civilian award and musician was presented with it by President of India, Ram Nath Kovind.

classical singer was earlier awarded  Pma Bhushan award in 2010, India’s third-highest civilian honour.

Pandit Chhannulal Mishra awarded prestigious Pma Vibhushan 2020

legendary musician is commonly known as  Jewel of Thumri and was born in Hariharpur, located in  Azamgarh district of Uttar Presh. He was born to Bri Pras Mishra, who introduced him to world of music and gave him his very first training in field. singer is known for his multiple ghazals and bhajans and is also remembered for his Bollywood number Sans Albeli, from film Aarakshan. 2011 film saw  Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Pukone, Saif Ali Khan, Manoj Bajpayee, and ors take on pivotal roles on big screen.

President of India’s official Twitter account saw a picture of Ram Nath Kovind with musical legend at award ceremony on Monday. In caption of image, Pandit Chhannulal Mishra was described as being 'equally proficient in classical, semi-classical, light music and folk music.' caption re, "President Kovind presents Pma Vibhushan to Pandit Chhannulal Mishra for Art. Hindustani classical and semi-classical vocalist, Shri Mishra has distinction of being equally proficient in classical, semi-classical, light music and folk music."

Pma awards are  highest civilian honours in country. y are announced every year, on eve of Republic Day. According to a report by ANI, awards have three main categories, which are Pma Vibhushan (exceptional and distinguished service), Pma Bhushan (distinguished service of higher-order) and Pma Shri (distinguished service).  Pma Awards were held on November 8 at Rashtrapati Bhavan. y were presided by President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, award ceremony was also attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and Home Minister Amit Shah. A total of 119 awards will be presented this year.
