This milestone follows Kiran's recent confession of her Oscar dream for the film. The historic nomination also signifies Aamir Khan Productions' second Oscar nod, following Lagaan's Best Foreign Language Film nomination at the 2002 Academy Award. Here’s where viewers can stream Laapataa Ladies on OTT.
Where to watch Laapataa Ladies on OTT?
Laapataa Ladies has been selected as India’s official entry for the Oscars 2025. Directed by Kiran Rao and co-produced by Aamir Khan, the film has received widespread praise since its release. The movie was released in cinemas on March 1, earned a little over ₹20 crore at the box office and gained immense love from the critics. It is a rural-set comedy-drama film about two brides who get lost on a train.
Laapataa Ladies is currently streaming on Netflix. The OTT giant announced its digital premiere in April earlier this year. Additionally, the film is also available on Plex.
A 13-member select committee picked by the Film Federation of India (FFI) gathered in Chennai and announced that they are sending Laapataa Ladies as India’s official entry to the 97th Academy Awards. This film is jointly produced by Kiran Rao and Aamir Khan and was screened at the 48th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 8, 2023.
Aamir Khan Productions' second movie to eye Oscars
Lagaan, which was one of the biggest Bollywood hits in 2001, was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Foreign Language Film category, only the third ever from India after Mother India (1957) and Salaam Bombay (1988). It was also produced by Aamir's production house. However, Lagaan did not win.
Now, Aamir will hope that Aamir Khan Productions, which has jointly produced Laapataa Ladies with Kiran's Kindling Pictures, bags an Oscar. In the meantime, Lagaan can be streamed on Zee5. It is directed by Ashutosh Gowariker.
