Directed by Raj & DK, this Indian edition of the global Citadel franchise offers a fresh perspective on action and espionage, set against the backdrop of the 1990s. In an interview with ANI, the directors discussed their decision to cast Varun Dhawan in a new role.
“We envisioned Varun in a different light and realised he had never tackled a full-blown action role before. He was thrilled about it. He also became very excited when he discovered the series was set in the 90s, as he has many memories and stories from his father's film sets. After our discussion, we recognised that he was the ideal choice, especially for a character with two timelines: one side being vibrant and lively, and the other more serious and mature. This diversity suited Varun perfectly,” Raj explained.
