American rapper Kanye West gave a heartwarming performance for the inmates at a Houston jail. A video of the surprise gig shows that West singing songs of his new gospel album 'Jesus is King'. He and his choir performed for more than 200 male inmates at one jail facility and then visited another across the street where he performed for the female inmates, according to the reports. The two-minute video has gone viral on social media. In the video, West can be seen shaking hands and embracing a few inmates who were in their orange outfits before the start of his performance. As the crowd enjoyed the songs, some were seen getting emotional and teary-eyed.
West performs for the inmates
After performing his first performance, West moved to the second prison, which was kept secret from the public and was approved by the prison officials, according to the reports. As per the reports, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said that the representatives of the rapper contacted the authorities regarding the performance that was very similar to the jailhouse concerts conducted by Johnny Cash in California. Jonny Cash has played a lot of prison concerts during his career. His interest in the prison went back to his days serving in the U.S. Air Force in Germany in the early 1950s.
West spoke to a crowd of about 16000 people
Recently, West spoke to a crowd of about 16000 people at Lakewood Church’s 11 a.m. service during an interview with Joel Osteen from the stage. Last month he released Jesus is King a gospel themed album which has been described as Christian rap. The rapper’s wife, Kim Kardashian West, and their daughter, North West, joined him at the church. They were sat in the front row which is the former Compaq Center, which was once the home of the Houston Rockets. A lot of parishioners those who sat near West took photos of him with their cellphones.
