Sachin Tendulkar unveils trailer of Sri Lankan cricketer Mutthiah Muralitharan biopic 800

The trailer for Tamil film 800 is out. The film is a biopic on the life of Sri Lankan cricketer Mutthiah Muralitharan. Former Indian cricket great Sachin Tendulkar attended the trailer launch in Mumbai as the chief guest.

• The film is titled 800 owing to Mutthiah Muralitharan's record of taking 800 wickets across his career. 
• The Tamil film will also release in Hindi and Telugu. 
• Vijay Sethupathi had been initially roped in to essay the role of Mutthiah Muralitharan. 

Sachin Tendulkar unveils the trailer of 800

Sachin Tendulkar graced the trailer launch of film 800, as the chief guest. Also present at the event, was man of the moment, Mutthiah Muralitharan. The cricketing legends also got ed together.

Slumdog Millionaire fame Madhurr Mittal leads the film as Mutthiah Muralitharan. Back in 2020, Vijay Sethupathi had been announced as the lead. However, the actor opted out of the project following outrage by Tamil nationalists, politicians and actors alike. The outrage was in relation to Muralitharan having allegedly been in support of the Sri Lankan government during the civil war with LTTE. Despite Muralitharan attempting to make a case for himself citing his Tamil origin, the outrage persisted which led to Sethupathi dropping out of the project. The film has been written and directed by MS Sripathy. Ghibran had composed the background score and music with Vivek Rangachari stepping in as producer. 

Who is Mutthiah Muralitharan? 

Mutthiah Muralitharan is a Sri Lankan cricketer best known for his bowling prowess. Muralitharan has taken 800 Test wickets across his illustrious career. He made his debut in 1992 against Australia at the Khettarama Stadium. Additionally, he also has to his credit over 530 ODI wickets. Interestingly, the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame member has dismissed Sachin Tendulkar a total of 13 times.
