South Korea to start socially distant drive-in circus for safe entertainment amid COVID-19

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the South Korea circus authorities said that the event would be held with the audience sitting in their cars.

On September 20, Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture anunced that it will host socially distant drive-in Seoul Circus Festival from September 25 to October 11 at Oil Tank Culture Park in Mapo, western Seoul, South Korea. Due to ongoing coronavirus pandemic, circus authorities said that event would be held with audience sitting in ir cars at parking to watch event rar than usual tents for spectators, according to official reservation website. 

event, which is held annually in May, was earlier postponed due to coronavirus pandemic as state health safety guidelines prohibited public assembly with onslaught of cases of COVID-19. show was reported to have been postponed twice, but eventually sold tickets for month’s end for a drive-in event.

“Circus Caravan is a 'Drive in Circus' that restricts contact between audiences by entering, viewing, and leaving while audience is in a vehicle so that y can safely watch performance in Corona 19 situation,” organisers wrote on booking portal.

Divided into two separate events, first Circus Caravan would be held which will consist of performances such as juggling, mime, aerial acts, among many ors for audience. first part will be conducted from September 25 to October 4. Furrmore, next part of circus titled Circus Cabaret will host an additional online exhibition and combination of traditional, modern, and contemporary circus performances. This part will be hosted only on weekends, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 1 pm onwards to 8:30 pm. At least 74 performances will be held on st in open for public view.

Manr of Seoul Street Art Creation Center, Cho Beong-hee, reportedly said that circus drafted new plans and different ideas to conduct artistic performances without posing public health risks amid coronavirus pandemic. Since many successful drive-in events have been conducted worldwide in pandemic era, company came up with idea to organize drive-in circus event for audience along with online streaming.
