World Tiger Day: Story of tigress Kanan who 'jumped from freedom to captivity' for love
On the occasion of International Tiger Day 2020, IFS official took to twitter and shared the story of tigress Kanan which left his followers completely amazed.

'iconic love story'
On occasion of International Tiger Day 2020, IFS official Sandeep Tripathi took to twitter and shared story of tigress Kanan which left his followers amazed. In year 1967, Kanan, lured by a male tiger, jumped into a zoo enclosure. tigress sacrificed her freedom for male tiger and joined him in his open-air enclosure at Nandankanan Zoo in Bhubaneswar.

Sandeep Tripathi put up a picture which was captioned as, “On this day would recapitulate unique love of wild tigress “Kanan” jumping from freedom to captivity of open-air enclosure of Zoo tiger “Preep” in night of 4th January 1967 lured by love. Unique take in Zoos of world”. Official Sandeep Tripathi, also shared an im of Kanan Square. With this im, he continued story of tigress Kanan.

He said that tiger Preep would t accept tigress as he h his own companion and Kanan being loyal to Preep, did t mate with any or tiger. He captioned im as, "However, Preep would t accept her, as he has his own female companion “Sikha”. “Kanan” would celibate till her death on 21st July, 1978 without accepting any or mate. “Kanan square” in Nandankanan immortalizes this iconic love story".
