For the unversed, Mukund was an Indian Army officer and a recipient of the Ashoka Chakra. He was posthumously awarded the Ashok Chakra for his actions during a counterterrorism operation while on deputation to the 44th Rashtriya Rifles battalion in Jammu and Kashmir. Major Mukund married Indhu Rebecca Varghese in 2009. Two years later, they welcomed a daughter in March 2011.

Amaran performed well on first two days at the box office and earned ₹40.55 crore in India. On the third day, the film earned ₹21.40 crore taking its total collection to ₹61.95 crore. Amaran had an overall 84.41% Tamil occupancy on November 2, while in Telugu it had 65.35%.
