Before Rajinikanth's cop drama hit big screens on October 11, fans of Vijay trended 'disaster Vettaiyan' on X, trolling makers of former for its poor vanced bookings. After Rajinikanth's film's opening day collections trailed behind GOAT by a huge margin, Thalaivar was criticised on social media with Vijay fans sharing memes.

Vettaiyan earned around ₹30.00 crore in India nett on its first day for all langus. Meanwhile, Jailer collected ₹56.6 crore on day 1 in India in all langus in 2023 and GOAT amassed ₹52 crore on its opening day this year in September.
