Mani Ratnam is one of the legendary filmmakers of Indian cinema and every actor dreams of working with him. However, do you know, Tamil actor Mohan once rejected to work with the actor? The director had approached him for the lead role in his 1990 movie Anjali, but he turned it down, owing to creative differences.
For the unversed, Anjali won three National Film Awards and was chosen as India's official entry to the Oscars in 1991, but was not nominated.
Why did Mohan turn down Mani Ratnam's Anjali?
In an interview with CineUlagam, Mohan shared that he refused to be part of the children's drama owing to creative differences with Ratnam. He also couldn't accept the fact of keeping a specially-abled child in a separate room.
When he turned down the offer, Mani Ratnam approached Raghuvaran for the role and he accepted it. The movie deals with the story of a dying mentally disabled child and the emotional trauma experienced by her family.
Will Mohan and Mani Ratnam reunite?
Before Anjali, Mohan had acted in two of Mani Ratnam's movies, Idaya Kovil and Mouna Ragam. However, after refusing Anjali, he was never a part of any of Ratnam's movies and it's been 30 years since.
What's next for Mohan?
