The documentary offers a peek into the Jawan actress' life taking you on a journey towards love and superstardom amidst the personal struggles and triumphs age faced in her life. Since starting of her career, Nayanthara has been the one who wears her heart on her sleeves even when it comes to her personal.
The much-talked-about part of her life was when she was dating Prabhu Deva, legendary choreographer and was said to be married. However, for a reason better known to them, the news flashed that they had called quits. At that time, they were considered an ‘It Couple’ of cinema, but this news shattered their fans' dreams. In her recently released documentary, the actress opened up about her past relationships and the learnings from them.
Nayanthara and Silambarasan TR’s love story tragically ended after a few months
In her Netflix documentary, Nayanthara recounted her past relationships without taking the name of any of her boyfriends. So, when he talked about her first relationship, we traced back to her 2006 movie Vallavan. It started right after she entered the entertainment industry. “My first relationship was purely based on trust. The trust that the other person is in love with you,” said Nayanthara.
Nayanthara and Silambarasan were going strong and were even considered one of the perfect couples. It was the first movie when she kissed onscreen. However, then her trust was shattered when a leaked image of them kissing each other offscreen became the talk of the town. This created a wedge between the two and they separated. Nagarjuna, who was working with Nayanthara in Boss at that time recalled, “I think it was a turbulent time of her relationship. In fact, we would dread the moment her phone rang because it would turn her off immediately. She became a different person.”
The infamous love story of Nayanthara and Prabhu Deva
In 2008, Nayanthara started shooting for Villu, which marked her maiden collaboration with Vijay and Prabhu Deva, who was helming the project. It was during the shooting the two started falling for each other and started dating, despite knowing that the former is married to Latha. In 2009, rumours were rife that the two were going strong and planning to get married, but Latha stood as an obstacle in their love story. Not only did she deny giving divorce to the choreographer but also went public with her disagreement.
Amidst this, Nayanthara maintained her silence and buried herself in work, starring in nine movies in just a span of two years in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. In 2011, again speculations were rife that they were going to tie the knot after her movie Sri Rama Rajyam, billed as her last film. Despite winning the Nandi Award for the movie, there was a section of the audience who criticised the actress for playing the role of Sita. They pointed out her personal choices and argued she was the wrong choice for playing the role of a goddess.
Owing to this, the actress offered to step down from Balakrishna-starrer, helmed by Bapu. However, the makers supported the actress and changed her mind. The actress was basking in the success of the movies and became one of the top and most skilled actresses. During the pre-release event, director Dasari Narayana Rao asked her to reconsider her decision to retire from acting.
However, she was firm in her decision. However, with Latha standing in her and Prabhu Deva’s way the actress then parted ways with the choreographer. Post which took the early retirement. Elaborating on her decision in the documentary, Nayanthara, without taking any names said, “It was the man who told me to quit cinema. It wasn’t like I had an option. I was told to leave the cinema, and I agreed.”
She further added, “Just because I never openly addressed my past, people started writing their own stories. And, all of them were pretty bad.” She questioned the society, “They started assuming the worst. How come none of the boys were asked anything? Why was I the only one questioned? I think I just trusted people very easily.”
After a break in 2011 and 2012, the actress came back with a mission to be unstoppable and on her way, she met her now husband Vignesh Shivan in 2015 while shooting for Naanum Rowdy Dhaan. The movie was directed by Vignesh.
