Despite this, the actress has handled the situation, responding subtly to the controversies surrounding her as she reportedly became a victim of deepfake.

Who is Helen Nelson aka Oviya?

Oviya was born into a Christian family in Thrissur, Kerala . She started her movie career with Malayalam film Kangaroo, alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran, which was released in 2007. Although she appeared in films like Puthiya Mukham and Apoorva, she chose to take a short break to complete her undergraduate studies in her hometown. In 2010, she made a comeback in the Tamil film industry with her role in Kalavani, directed by Sarkunam. She later acted in Vengai, Sevanu, and Muthukku Muthaaga.

After 2014, Oviya's acting career began to wane, and she found herself mostly offered glamorous roles in lesser-known films. She starred alongside veteran actor Sarathkumar in the poorly received Sandamarutham (2015), which attracted negative reviews. Her following Tamil films, C. V. Kumar's heist comedy 144 (2015) and Sundar C's horror comedy Hello Naan Pei Pesuren (2016), underperformed at the box office.

In 2017, Oviya regained popularity after appearing on Bigg Boss Tamil Season 1. Despite being targeted by fellow contestants, she quickly became a fan favourite due to her witty and straightforward personality.
