Indian 2 makers held a special trailer launch event in Chennai on June 25. The event was attended by Kamal Haasan, Siddharth and director S Shankar where they all talked in detail about the movie. During the conversation, the director revealed the reason behind the Indian 2 split in two parts. For the unversed, the sequel will release in two parts, with the first half releasing on July 12.

Why Indian 2 has been divided into two parts?

Shankar explained that Indian only revolved around one state. However, now the story has spread all over the country, so "naturally the story became big". He shared that their initial idea was to do only one part. After I started filming and when I sat in the editing room, all the scenes from my point of view came out very well. If, for the sake of it, you have to make it in one part, if I compressed the whole thing, the soul of every scene, the feel of every scene would have been lost,” Shankar added.

The director thought all the scenes looked good and weren't boring so he decided to split them into two parts as each part has its own "strength, whole form, engaging scenes and start, a body, a climax and a finish".

Kamal Haasan supports Shankar's decision

Kamal Haasan, who will be returning as Senapathy in India 2, shared that splitting the sequel into two parts and deciding to release Indian 3 in future was the director's choice. He added that on the first day of the shoot, he told his crew that the movie was going to be in two parts and he would be shooting sporadically back and forth between the two movies.

“On day one, I've told my crew that this is going to be in two parts. We embark on a journey today to make two films. You'll be paid as such. But I'll be shooting sporadically back and forth between the two films,” Kamal said. The veteran actor further said that he believes in the decision that the director has made. “There are many competent directors who are waiting for the right producer to make one film. He got the opportunity to make two. Why not use it? That's what he must have thought. That's what I think,” Haasan concluded.

Indian 2 will be hitting the theatres on July 12.
