Vettaiyan Director Opens Up About Rajinikanth's Role, Says 'I Cannot Change Myself For Thalaivar'

Rajnikanth is all geared up for his upcoming film Vettaiyan. The makers unveiled the first look of the movie today, September 20 at the audio launch in Chennai. The over 1-minute teaser offers a glimpse of the plotline featuring the cast. Recently, the filmmaker in an interview revealed the plot details and Rajinikanth’s role.

What did filmmaker revealed about the film?

According to a report in 123 Telugu report, in an interview, TJ Gnanavel said, “After Jailer’s massive success, the expectations on Rajini sir have increased a lot. Vettaiyan will have songs and fights as well. But I didn’t deviate from what I wanted to convey. We have seen films about encounter specialists before, but we have never seen their background stories. Vettaiyan throws light on their thinking process.”

TJ Gnanavel added, “Thalaivar Rajinikanth is an encounter specialist in the film. What is his stand on encounters and what happens to him is the film’s plot. I cannot change myself completely for Rajini sir. People usually expect a few elements from him, like style and grace. While staying true to the story, I did my best to match Thalaivar’s image and stardom.”

All about Rajinikanth’s role in Vettaiyan

The teaser showcases Rajinikanth supporting encounters. The clip opens at a scene where police officers are sitting in a conference room discussing the encounter cases. The conference is led by  Amitabh Bachchan  , who is probing police officer Rajinikanth. When he asks the officers if the encounter makes them look "heroic", Rajinikanth replies that such killings are not just punishments but also a message to other criminals. The teaser shows Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan at loggerheads over encounters conducted by the top police officers.

What do we know about Vettaiyan?

Directed by TJ Gnanavel, Vettaiyan is touted to be about an officer, who believes encounters are best for punishing criminals. apart from Rajini and Big B, the movie also stars  Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier and Rithika Singh in key roles. The movie is set to release on October 10, coinciding with Vijayadashami.
