'Ramayan' Diaries: Casting calls for 'Vaanarsena' was done by beating dhols in villages

In a media conversation, Ramayan cast met up virtually after more than 30 years to discuss ir take on Ramayan being telecast again. Prem Sagar, son of Ramayan show's creator, Ramanand Sagar recalled moments from sets and how y mand to become a successful TV show out of one of India's greatest epic scripture. He narrated how production would get extra artists for ir sets while shooting vaanarsena scenes.

In interaction with media, Prem Sagar said, " production of Ramayan faced great challenges being first to attempt such a project. One of major problems we faced was getting junior artists for serial especially for role of vaanarsena."

Continuing conversation, Prem Sagar revealed, " production would beat drums like in olden times to anunce casting calls in nearby vills. Often y would offer people a w of ₹10 or food in exchange for playing a part in vaanarsena. However, we would try our best to make things work."

Furr, when Prem Sagar spoke about ecomic constraints show makers faced. Sagar explained, "Times were different n. We h a few actors who were paid on a monthly basis, inste of a per-episode basis. One actor h to play multiple roles".

As an example of this situation, Prem Sagar ded, " actor who played one part also played ar part as well in serial. But due to us of different kinds of makeup and costume, viewer could t tell difference, or even assume that it is same actor y have seen before in a different role."
