Now the situation is such that I have to remind people I am a man: Ali Asgar

Ali Asgar, known for playing several characters on TV dressed as a woman, is unhappy about being slotted in similar characters and the lack of different kind of roles. The actor also felt the situation is such that he has to remind people that he is a man.

In a recent interview with a portal, when asked if repeatedly playing characters dressed as a woman on TV had limited his opportunities, Ali responded that the TV producers usually plan according to various research parameters. He said that he is often asked why he does only women characters, and his answer is that it was not something he was doing out of choice.  

Ali is now set to star in the Nargis Fakhri-Sachiin Joshi-starrer horror flick ‘Amavas.’ The actor said the movie gave him the opportunity to show that he is capable of doing everything and that it is a ‘shoutout’ to the fact that he knows this too. 

The ‘Kanpur Wale Khuranas’ star added that nowadays he has to remind people that he is a man. Saying he is ‘extremely thankful’, Ali conveyed his gratitude to ‘Amavas’ director Bhushan Patel and Sachiin for offering him this role and quipped that he is ready to even play a ghost in the next installment.  

The former 'Kapil Sharma Show' star said that he was not bored, but tired as ‘everyone needs variety.’ He added that sometimes things start off in a different manner but invariably he’s put into the same clothes and the ‘same old loop.’ He also wondered who are the people who wants to see such characters, that the research teams often tell him about. 

Ali said that when the character becomes one’s identity, it leads to the actor getting slotted and the journey gets tougher from there on. The actor added it was harder on TV as there is ‘confusion’ as saying ‘no’ will make it go against him in the media. He called it is a ‘risk’ as he also has to earn his bread and butter. However, when it come to fims, he had the time to wait for the right project.

Ali said that the audience loves him, his popularity is immense and he doesn’t have a problem in what he is doing. However, the actor feels he should be given the opportunity to do something else too.
