Shadow and Bone: Ben Barnes, Jessie Mei Li join cast of Netflix show
British actor Ben Barnes joined the cast of ‘Shadow and Bone’ Netflix series which is based on Leigh Bardugo's fantasy novels Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows.

British actor and singer Ben Barnes has joined the cast of ‘Shadow and Bone’ Netflix series which is based on Leigh Bardugo's bestselling fantasy novels Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows. The Grishaverse television adaptation will have Jessie Mei Li and Archie Renaux along with Barnes, revealed Netlflix press release. The author of Grishaverse Leigh Bardugo will be the co-executive producer of the show.

Jessie Mei Li in a lead role
In the web series, Jessie Mei Li will play the lead character Alina Starkov, a soldier who discovers her magical ability to summon light into the world. In the Grisha trilogy, the land is full of people with magical powers and a ‘shadowfold’ splits the world into two. Alina Starkov discovers that her power can be used to unite the world. Ben Barnes will play General Kirigan while Freddy Carter as Kaz Brekker, Archie Renaux as Malyen Oretsev, Amita Suman as Inej, and Kit Young as Jesper Fahey.

Full cast to be revealed later
Bardugo took to Twitter to inform that the current cast was just round one and she will reveal the rest of the cast when she will be allowed to do so. “I know you guys were hoping to see the full cast—this is just round one. More to come when we're free to reveal it. Please be patient,” she tweeted. “And just to ease your pain: Nikolai is not in Season 1. Now let's go celebrate because this magic is really happening” she added.

Day-one on the sets
Ben Barnes tweeted a video of him from the sets of Shadow and Bone. “Hey everyone! It’s very early in the morning but I’m very excited to be able to tell you that this is Day1 of shooting for me on a new Netflix show called Shadow and Bone fantasy series based on some books by Leigh Bardugo,” said Barnes. Bardugo quoted the video saying her last name has never sounded better.
