'My name, my real name, is Aegon Targaryen', Jon Snow had said to Daenerys in a scene that had been an entire lifetime in the making, in their final tense moments together before the Army of the Dead appeared before Winterfell's gates.
Regardless of his real identity, it was well known by all and sundry that if the living were to fend off the Night King and his troops, Jon Snow would have a major role to play. This was lent further credence when king cold personally acknowledged Jon on two occasions - at Hardehome and in the battle of the frozen lake, and appeared downright certain once Jon had mounted Rhaegal prior to the big invasion.
However, the Battle of Winterfell largely saw Jon in the periphery - torn three ways between his desire to watch Dany's back, to protect Bran, and also to kill the Night King and end 'the Long Night' before it really begins. In the course of this, he was flung off his dragon, as was the Night King, in a deadly dance of dragons in the skies - went stalking after his prey only to be set upon by neo-wights. Even as he finally chose - Bran over Dany - he was blocked repeatedly by a rampaging Viserion.
The Internet has noticed. They were watching all along. Here's what they made of Jon Snow's contributions to the climactic Battle of Winterfell:

Some think there's more to come and perhaps he'll live up to his true potential then:
It was a good thing Jon had a wall to hide behind, because we know how Viserion has trouble with walls:
Would Jon tell Arya 'Oh, so you did what I told you?':
Apparently, chicken dressed in pants is a thing:
