For the Akkineni family, the morning of August 24 came as an unpleasant surprise as their N-Convention Centre in Madhapur, Hyderabad, jointly owned by Telugu superstar Nagarjuna, was demolished. The property was razed to the ground by the newly constituted state government organisation, Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection (HYDRA). The property was allegedly found to be built on encroached land in the FTL of the Thummidikunta Lake in Hyderabad. Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection (HYDRA) authorities began razing the property on Saturday.
As per reports, the property is built on land within the Full Tank Level (FTL) area and buffer zone of the Thammidikunta Lake in the Madhapur area of the city. Authorities allege that the N-Convention Center encroached on about 1.12 acres of the FTL area and an additional 2 acres within the buffer.
Nagarjuna reacts to the 'unlawful' demolition of the N-Convention Center
Actor Nagarjuna said they had "not done any actions in violation of law" and the demolition was clearly carried out "wrongfully based on misinformation". The actor approached the High Court challenging the grounds of demolition and a stay was ordered. He took to X and expressed his anguish over demolition, “wrote, "Pained by the unlawful manner of demolition carried out in respect of N Convention, contrary to existing stay orders and Court cases. I thought it fit to issue this statement to place on record certain facts for protecting my reputation and to indicate that we have not done any actions in violation of the law."
He further said, “The land is a Patta land, and not even an inch of tank plan is encroached. In respect of the building constructed inside the private land, there is a stay order granted against any earlier illegal notice for demolition. Today clearly, the demolition was carried out wrongfully based on misinformation.” He added, "No notice was issued prior to carrying out the demolition this morning. As a law-abiding citizen, if the Court before which the matter is pending, had decided against me, I would have carried out the demolition myself. I am placing this on record for the purpose of correcting any public misimpression about wrongful constructions or encroachment by us. " The actor concluded his state requesting the court to take appropriate action against the authorities and grant him relief in the matter.
Court orders stay on demolition
A temporary stay on the action was passed after Nagarjuna approached the court challenging the grounds of demolition.
