Shruti Haasan opens up on box office pressures, industry relationships, sobriety and more

Actress Shruti Haasan who has had an active year in movies, is now gearing up to cap her year in style. While the actress-singer has a big release coming up in form of Prabhas-starrer Salaar, she will also be seen in the pan-Indian actioner Dacoit, where she stars with Major star Adivi Sesh. Yesterday, the actress took to her social media page to announce the title of the film as well as released the official teaser of the film, which gives away the film’s story universe where both Haasan and Sesh play estranged lovers (and criminals) who reunite for a dangerous heist. 

Feel like friends and family now: Shruti on Salaar team

In a recent interview with Mid Day, Haasan spoke about the many ways in which her working experience in Salaar helped her. She stated, “We have been shooting it for quite a while. So, we feel like friends and family now. It’s one of the most anticipated films and rightfully so.” While Salaar essentially revolves around Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s characters who play childhood friends, the film also features Haasan in a pivotal role. Talking about whether she feels any added pressure of a film’s box office performance, Haasan denied feeling any such anxiety. “I have done all kinds of films - big, small and everything in between. And I want them all to do well.”

Earlier this year, Shruti Haasan also opened up about her journey to sobriety. Addressing the subject, the actress admitted to being aware that she would be judged for her past habits. She further reflected, “We still live in a society where people pretend they don’t drink or don’t party. I’m more concerned with saying something of value in any way, big or small. This was a journey I wanted to talk about. For those who don’t understand it and want to judge, they will never get it. For the rest of us, this conversation is important.

Recently, Haasan also made her English film debut with the movie The Eye, which opened to great reviews at the BFI London Film Festival in October.
