Netflix controversy: US Senators have urged the OTT platform to not go through with their adaptation of a Chinese science fiction book series.

Popular OTT giant Netflix has run into a controversy with US Senators who have urged platform to scrap aptation of a Chinese science fiction book. Five US Senators, as per a report by US News & World Report, have urged platform to reconsider ir move to apt book trilogy. argument by Senators is that author of Chinese book has defended treatment of Uighur Muslims under Chinese Government.

D.B Weiss and David Benioff were expected to work on this project of turning book into a live-action aptation. book named “ Three-Body Problem” is one out of three books that were set to be apted into a Netflix project. trilogy has been written by Liu Cixin and anuncement for aptation came about a month ago as per  portal. D.B Weiss and David Benioff have been kwn to work on Game of Thrones and thus were tasked to work on live aptation of book written by Liu.

However, a letter was written to Netflix by five US Senators which drew attention towards certain comments me by Liu to a magazine in 2019. writer spoke about China’s clampdown on ethnic Uighurs and or Muslim communit9ies in Xinjiang region. In statement, according to  portal, Liu mentioned that Chinese government was trying to help ir ecomy and also trying to lift off poverty. He furr ded that if one were to loosen up country, consequences would be terrifying.

In past, United States Human Rights groups have criticized China’s treatment of Uighur Muslims. China, on or hand, has denied such accusations me by US.  Chinese have also denied existence of internment camps and have called m vocational and educational institutions.

In letter sent by senators, Marsha Blackburn mentioned that aptation of Liu’s work amounts to rmalization of Chinese Government's crimes. Thus senators have asked Netflix to reconsider ir decision. OTT platform, on or hand, is yet to comment on this issue.
