He embraced Islam before release of his debut project, Roja. report furr ded that his friend Trilok Nair h told Krishna Trilok in his authorised biography, tes of a Dream, that Rahman’s mor Kareema Begum h insisted on changing his name in film‘s credits at last minute.

From Dileep Kumar to AR Rahman
As mentioned by Scroll.in, AR Rahman stated that he never liked his name and that he somehow felt that his name didn’t match im he h of himself. More so, singer continued that before his family and he started ir journey on path of Sufism, y went to an astrologer to show him his younger sister’s horoscope because his mor wanted to get her married.

Speaking about how he was keen on changing his name around that time, Rahman ded that he wanted a new identity and that astrologer suggested names- Abdul Rahman and Abdul Rahim. AR Rahman remarked that he instantly loved name Rahman and n his mor h an intuition that he should d Allahrakha (Protected by God) in his name. That's how he changed his name to AR Rahman from Dileep Kumar.

AR Rahman me his debut as a music composer with 1992 movie Roja. song titled Chinna Chinna Aasai was first track that Rahman h composed for film.
