Fact check: Is the 'federal government' providing ₹5,000 in relief funds in India?

Fact check: A viral WhatsApp forward message was claiming that the federal government is providing relief funds worth ₹5,000 has been proven false.

ongoing coronavirus lockdown has brought upon a number of unforeseen challenges for people around globe. As seen in mainstream media and social media, a large number of people are facing dire issues relating to health and finance along with various ors. During se testing times, people around world have evidently looked up to ir respective governments and asked for help and various countries have also provided ir citizens with support. Indian government has also come up with a massive Rs 20 lakh crore relief pack, a portion of which entails DBT transfer of money to needy citizens; and amid this, some torious Internet users are capitalizing on vulnerability of situation and spreing fake news.

'FG lockdown funds' fake mess

A mess claiming that federal government will be providing Indian citizens with a relief pack of ₹5,000 h gone viral on Internet recently. mess was coupled along with a link that allowed users to 'instantly claim' amount. fake mess which first started circulating on WhatsApp was later also shared on various or social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram. mess is being circulated during times when people have taken huge hits with regards to ir livelihoods and businesses. A mess of this nature can evidently bait people into ing link provided in mess out of curiosity. link provided in WhatsApp forward takes users to a website which claims that only '1936 lockdown packs' are available to give away, but number does t go down or increase on website and stays same for days. Interestingly, a similar mess has also gone viral in Kenya. mess going viral in Kenya also claims that federal government has issued relief funds for 10,000 Kenyan Shilling. Kenyan mess also provides a fake link which les to a website similar to shown above. Check it out below -
