Fact Check: Mahatma Gandhi to be replaced on currency notes? RBI issues clarification

According to Reserve Bank, there is no proposal to replace Gandhi on currency notes. The reports and claims on social media platforms are fake.

After some reports suggested that Union finance ministry and Reserve Bank of India were planning to use faces of or prominent Indians, including Rabindranath Tagore and APJ Abdul Kalam, on banktes, central bank has issued a clarification.

Dismissing reports and claims, RBI said that re is proposal to replace Mahatma Gandhi with ors on existing currency and banktes.

"re are reports in certain sections of media that Reserve Bank of India is considering changes to existing currency and banktes by replacing face of Mahatma Gandhi with that of ors. It may be ted that re is such proposal in Reserve Bank," RBI Chief General Manr Yogesh Dayal said in a statement.

Hence, according to Reserve Bank, re is proposal to replace Gandhi on currency tes. reports and claims on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook are fake.

This is t first time that such claims have been me, and  RBI has refuted m on previousoccasions too.
