Former US Prez Nixon's video announcing 'failure' of Apollo 11 goes viral; Know the truth

A video of former US President Nixon delivering the contingency speech has surfaced in which he announces the failure of Apollo 11 mission and the moon landing.

Apollo 11 mission was celebrated across world as a giant leap for humankind when NASA astronauts landed on Moon and returned to Earth safely. mission was fraught with risks so a contingency speech was also prepared for n US President Richard Nixon which was obviously never delivered.

However, a video of President Nixon delivering contingency speech has w surfaced on internet in which he hails Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin for sacrificing ir lives in search of truth and understanding. Nixon can be heard saying brave astronauts kw that re is hope for ir recovery.

“Fate has ordained that men who went to moon to explore in peace, will stay on moon to rest in peace. se brave men, Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin kw that re is hope for ir recovery. But y also kw that re is hope for mankind in ir sacrifice,” Nixon res statement.

So, why did Nixon re speech when mission was successful? answer is - he didn’t. MIT’s Center for vanced Virtuality created a “deepfake” video titled “In Event of Moon Disaster” to educate public about world of deepfakes. immersive project invites people into this alternative history and asks everyone to consider how new techlogies can bend, redirect and obfuscate truth around us.

video was premiered in vember 2019 but it was circulated again on 51st anniversary of moon landing. D. Fox Harrell, director of MIT Center for vanced Virtuality, said in a statement that media misinformation is a longstanding phemen but it has been exacerbated by deepfake techlogies. He said that ease of disseminating content online makes it a crucial issue of our time.

“With this project, our powerfully talented XR Creative Director Francesca Panetta is pushing forward one of center’s bro aims: using AI and techlogies of virtuality to support creative expression and truth,” said Harell.
