Where does listeria come from?

Listeria can be found in water, soil and intestines of some animals. But since some don't show any symptoms it gets transferred to refrigerated, processed meats that can last for several years. Listeria spreads easily among deli equipment, surfaces, hands, and food. Deli products are kept refrigerated, but refrigeration does not kill Listeria.”
