What Is Saree Cancer?
According to a recent report, people who wear a tightly fitted underskirt or petticoat under a saree are at a higher risk of developing ‘Saree Cancer,’ also known as ‘Petticoat Cancer’.
Saree Cancer occurs over time due to constant rubbing and restriction of blood flow, which hampers skin healing. The friction and pressure from the garment in the same spot for a long time can cause skin irritation, potentially leading to an ulcer, known as Marjolin's ulcer, and ultimately developing into skin cancer.

Essential Lifestyle Tips To Prevent Petticoat Cancer
- As obvious as it may seem, avoid wearing tight petticoats, especially if you notice any lesions on your waist.
- Changing the waist level where you wear your saree can help reduce skin inflammation in the same spot.
- Opt for a broader waistband, as it can distribute pressure more evenly, reducing strain on a specific area.
- Keep your skin moisturized to prevent dryness, which can lead to cracks and increase the risk of ulcers and irritation.
