14 home-bound migrant labourers killed in two road accidents, nearly 60 injured

Fourteen migrant labourers were killed and nearly 60 injured in two road accidents on Thursday while they were on the way to their homes in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, police said.

Fourteen migrant labourers were killed and nearly 60 injured in two ro accidents on Thursday while y were on way to ir homes in Uttar Presh and Bihar, police said.

In an early morning accident in Guna, around 180 km from Mhya Presh capital Bhopal, eight Uttar Presh-bound migrant workers were killed and nearly 55 injured when truck y were travelling in collided with a bus, MP police said.

second accident took place in Uttar Presh’s Muzaffarnagar when six migrant workers walking to ir homes in Bihar from Punjab were killed and four seriously injured after being hit by a roways bus on Delhi-Saharanpur Highway, officials said.

Guna accident took place around 3 am when truck carrying nearly 65 migrant labourers from Maharashtra to Uttar Presh collided with a bus, which only h a driver, coming from wrong side on Guna bypass ro, Superintendent of Police Tarun Nayak said.

Prima facie, it seems carelessness of bus driver caused accident, Nayak said, ding a case has been registered against bus driver and furr investigation is underway.

Guna Collector S Vishwanathan said district ministration is making arrangements to send injured labourers home safely after y recover.

Mhya Presh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan condoled death of migrant labourers and said he has directed officials concerned to ensure proper treatment of injured persons.

In Luckw, Uttar Presh Chief Minister Yogi ityanath anunced an ex gratia payment of Rs. 2 lakh each to next of kin of deceased and Rs. 50,000 each for seriously injured, officials said.

Yogi directed officials to coordinate with Mhya Presh government for ensuring proper treatment of injured, y ded.

Policemen involved in rescue work were later quarantined in wake of COVID-19 scare, a police official said.

Meanwhile, six migrant workers, walking to ir homes in Bihar from Punjab, were killed and four seriously injured when a roways bus ran m over on Delhi-Saharanpur Highway in Uttar Presh's Muzaffarnagar, officials said.

incident took place on intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday between Ghalauli check-post and Rohana Toll Plaza, about 20 km from Muzaffarnagar, Senior Superintendent of Police Abhishek Yav said.

Medical reports confirmed that driver, Rajbir, was under influence of alcohol at time of incident, Station House Officer Anil Kapervan said.

A government official in Luckw said Chief Minister Yogi ityanath expressed grief over accident and anunced an ex gratia payment of Rs 2 lakh each to families of deceased and Rs 50,000 to seriously injured.

He also asked Sahranpur Commissioner to conduct an inquiry into incident and fix responsibility, spokesman said.
