2016 JNU Sedition case | Chargesheet reveals Umar Khalid deliberately concealed his natural writing  to escape from police probe 

The Delhi Police Chargesheet filed against Umar Khalid, Kanhaiya Kumar and Anirban Bhattacharya has revealed that the accused were allegedly trying to mislead the investigation.

The police have also mentioned in the chargesheet that Umar Khalid allegedly forged the signature of Anirban and Ashwathi to book the venue. 

Accused Umar Khalid had filled the original permission for booking different venues of JNU and the same had his name and signature. Investigations have suggested that Umar forged the signature of Anirban and Awasthi on the permission form. Statement of Kailash, the owner of PA System that Umar booked his PA system was also recorded during the investigation.

A police official privy to the investigation said that Umar forged the signature and hence he was also booked under forgery sections. The chargesheet further reveals links of the accused with the Kashmiri students who were also part of the mob and were allegedly raising anti-India slogans. To prove their claims the Delhi Police have cited the forensic report of their cell phones.

A police source said that the Umar Khalid deliberately tried to mislead the investigations by concealing his natural flow of writing pattern so that sample taken does not match with his writing on permission form for the event. As per chargesheet, the expert has further opined that the accused tried to hide their natural writing.

“They were trying to mislead us on all the points, they knew that we have gathered evidence against them and to give the cops a slip they deliberately wrote in a different manner, but our expert found their trick and we were duly informed. This point is also going to be huge in the ongoing case that will nail them,” said a police official privy to the investigation.
