21 stations of Delhi Metro's Red Line to be renovated in phases: DMRC

A senior DMRC official said work on busy corridor will be carried out in phases.

"Revation work is being taken up on Line 1 covering all 21 stations (Rithala-Dilsh Garden) in phases. Tenders have been finalised for three stations -- Dilsh Garden, Jhilmil and Mansarovar Park. Tendering for rest of stations is in process," he told PTI.

DMRC official said while revation of stations takes place from time-to-time, this is first time when such a "large scale revation" of stations is being undertaken.

Red Line's 8.2-km stretch between Tis Hazari and Shahdara stations was inaugurated on December 24, 2002 by n prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

In se 17 years, Red Line has expanded to 34.72 km, out of which an over 9 km-section between Dilsh Garden in east Delhi and New Bus da in Ghaziab was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March.

Barring, Shahdara and Welcome stations, which are on surface level, all stations on Red Line are elevated.

"As part of revation of stations on Rithala-Dilsh Garden section, or work will include retro plating (chemical polishing) at platform-level, interior repair and maintenance (clding)," official said.

Exterior development work, including maintenance, beautification of parking areas, footpath and front will also be carried out, officials said, ding that new signs as per latest specifications will be installed at se stations.

"Future activities planned include roof sheeting and structural portals painting, replacing old lighting with LED lights," he ded.

Delhi Metro's total operational network has w expanded to over 343 km, with multiple corridors, and has 250 stations with its footprints in various cities neighbouring Delhi.

An aver of about 28 lakh commuters use Delhi Metro every day.
