250km Apart, Military Couple Dies by Suicide on Same Day: Report

New Delhi: A military couple allegedly died by suicide, one in Agra and the other in Delhi on Tuesday this week, as per reports.

Flt Lt Deen Dayal Deep posted at Kheria Air Force Station in Agra and his wife Capt Renu Tanwar posted at the military hospital in the same city were found dead by their knowns.

The body of Capt Ritu who came to Delhi to visit her mother was found dead in the officers' mess while her husband's body was found hanging in his Agra quarters by his colleagues.

Reports suggest that police recovered a suicide note by Capt Ritu's body, however, no note was found in the husband’s quarters in Agra. In the note, the wife urged to be 'cremated with her husband.'

On Monday night, Deep had dinner with his colleagues where he cracked jokes and engaged in conversation as usual, showing no sign of distress, the staff told police. They added on Tuesday when Deep didn’t wake up, they broke down the door and found him dead.  

The postmortem report revealed asphyxiation as the cause of his death.

Meanwhile, a senior Delhi police officer said that the preliminary inquiry found that Capt Ritu arrived at a guest house along with her brother and mother.

An investigation into the matter is underway to identify the reason behind the suicide.
