33 Omicron cases reported in Tamil Nadu, State's largest single-day spike of new variant

Tamil Nadu with 33 fresh Omicron cases stands with a total of 34 cases of the new variant, informed Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian.

In a major jump, Tamil Nu with 33 fresh Omicron cases stands with a total of 34 cases of new variant, informed Tamil Nu Health Minister Ma Subramanian on Thursday. state which h only one single case till Wednesday now has reported a major spike in infections creating a situation of tension among people. 

Providing furr details on it, he said that out of fresh infections, 26 cases of infections have been reported from Chennai, four from Murai, two from Tiruvanamalai, and one from Salem. "All  patients are being treated in isolation and are asymptomatic. However, all of m are vaccinated and re is no need to panic or get scared", he assured.

State Health Minister also informed that he will visit King Institute of Preventive Medicine and Research in Chennai for checking on patients mitted over re. 

Notably, fresh infections came after genomic sequencing of samples that were collected from people testing positive for coronavirus. se patients were out of 104 people who arrived in Tamil Nu from or countries testing positive for coronavirus. Out of se, 82 were detected with 'S gene drop' of variant.

Tamil Nu intensifies COVID-19 precautions

While Tamil Nu records a major jump in Omicron cases, state government has also intensified COVID-19 precautions and measures for international passengers arriving at state. As informed by Minister for Medical and Family Welfare, government has appealed to Centre for allowing state authorities to conduct COVID-19 testing for all passengers coming from any country inste of those arriving from 'at-risk' ones. 

Apart from that, as time for Jallikattu sport nears, several doctors have also appealed to state government to not allow conducting of bull-taming sport amid COVID-19 risk and variant concerns.
