4-Year-Old Chokes on Candy, Dies After Struggling to Breathe

Kanpur: In a tragic incident, a 4-year-old boy died after a toffee got stuck in his throat in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur. 

The child was eating an eye-shaped toffee when it became stuck in his throat shortly afterward.

Minor Died After Toffee Got Stuck In His Throat

The incident took place on Sunday evening (November 3) in Barra Jarauli Phase-1, within the jurisdiction of the Barra Police Station.

His mother, Sonalika, attempted to help by giving him water, which caused the candy to slip further down his throat, making it even harder for the child to breathe. 

Doctors Were Unavailable Due To Festival Time

The family immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital, but the doctors were unable to remove the toffee.

They were left frustrated as many doctors were unavailable due to festival time.  

Shopkeeper on the Run

The family took the child to three or four different hospitals, but none were able to provide the necessary treatment. Tragically, the child choked to death as the candy remained stuck in his throat. After struggling for nearly three hours, the child lost his life. The grieving family is now calling for action against the manufacturer of the toffee.

The shopkeeper from whom the child purchased the candy has reportedly closed his shop and fled. The police have launched a search operation to apprehend him. Meanwhile, the family is urging the food department to investigate the matter and take legal action against the manufacturing company.

A case has been registered and further investigation is underway, officials said.
