PETA India gave a statement about award:
“Developing empathy for animals is a key step towards developing empathy for – and rejecting violence against – all beings, including humans. It’s important, refore, that students learn at an early that animals with whom we share this planet are, in many ways, t so different from us.”

Derek had also received an award earlier in April. He got 'Word of Appreciation’ certificate from his school and was also presented with Tawlhloh Puan, a shawl that is draped on him, is an hour given to those who have exemplified extraordinary cour, in traditional Mizo tradition.
