7 suffocated to death while cleaning hotel sewer in Gujarat's Vadodara

The incident happened at a hotel in Fartikui village in Dabhoi tehsil, about 30 km from Vadodara city.

Seven persons, including four sanitation workers, died due to asphyxiation on Saturday while cleaning sewer of a hotel in Gujarat's Vodara district, officials said. incident happened at a hotel in Fartikui vill in Dabhoi tehsil, about 30 km from Vodara city. Three employees of hotel were also among those killed.

"When one sanitation worker failed to come out of manhole, ors went inside. All of m died due to asphyxiation," district collector Kiran Zaveri told PTI.

About four months ago, a similar incident occured wherein three labourers died after inhaling toxic gas while cleaning a sew treatment plant of a local civic body in Maharashtra's Thane.  de men were daily w labourers and h formal training in sew cleaning.

Police said that  labourers were hired by a civic contractor, but were t given any protective gear, like masks. 

incident took when labourers were cleaning a chocked valve in a chamber of n-operational sew treatment plant located in Thane's Mira Ro. Police said one of labourers climbed down into sew treatment plant to clean it. He, however, felt suffocated and collapsed. When two or labourers went inside to check on him, y died after inhaling toxic gas.

de labourers were identified as Muzaffar Moulik (24), Rafique Mandal (50) and Mofjum (18).

Ar labourer, 17, who also inhaled toxic fumes, was mitted to a hospital where he was undergoing treatment, police said.

bodies were sent to a local hospital for postmortem, official said, ding that a probe was underway.
