87th Air Force Day: PM Narendra Modi salutes the Indian Air Force

On the occasion of the 87th Air Force Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi saluted the personnel of the Indian Air Force (IAF). The IAF was founded on October 8, 1932. As a result, this day is celebrated as the Air Force Day in India every year. In a message released on the microblogging website Twitter, PM Modi recalled the IAF’s amazing display on the Republic Day. He opined the ‘flypast’ was one of the most awaited moments. Furthermore, he highlighted the crucial role played by the IAF in several conflicts including 1947, 1965, 1971 and 1999. The IAF’s contribution to relief during disasters was also commended by the PM.

PM Modi stated, “We are celebrating Indian Air Force Day on October 8. On the occasion of Republic Day, one of the moments that people most eagerly wait for is the flypast, in which the IAF displays its prowess. Our Air Force has proved to be the 21st century’s most disciplined and powerful Air Force. The role of the Air Force has been important in several conflicts whether it is 1947, 1965, 1971 or 1999. Irrespective of a cyclone, flood or forest fire, their contribution in helping the citizens is very special. I salute all the Air Warriors and their families from the bottom of my heart.”

Dress rehearsal conducted

The IAF conducted a full dress rehearsal, including air drills of both vintage aircraft and modern fleet, at its Hindon base on Sunday. According to an Air Force official, the programme will commence with flag bearing skydivers of the famous Akash Ganga team dropping out of an AN-32 aircraft in their colourful canopies. He added that both vintage, as well as modern transport and fighter aircraft, would be included in the flypast. A spell-binding aerobatic display will bring an end to the function.
