9 specially-abled from Coimbatore make it to the Guinness World Record
9 visually challenged people from Coimbatore made the nation proud by making it to the Guinness Book. In 5 hours they stitched the worlds' largest jute bag.

Earlier today in Coimbatore, Tamil Nu, 9 visually challenged people stitched world's largest jute bag measuring, 66 feet tall and 33 feet wide. This was done as an attempt to get an entry into Guinness World records and to spre awareness about harmful effects of plastic bags. This remarkable attempt for visually challenged people was organised by Yuva Foundation.
visually challenged makers who stitched world's largest jute bag were assisted by trans community and student's from a technical institute of Tamil Nu's Coimbatore district.

In conversation with ANI, Yuva Foundation Chairman, Shashi Kala, who h organised attempt said, "Nine visually challenged people from Yuva Foundation set out to make a Guinness world record by sewing a 66-feet high and 33 feet wide jute bag. jute bag was also used to educate and sensitise people on harmful effects of plastic bag and how switching to eco-friendly alternatives is a better idea."

PM's efforts applauded
Shashi Kala also applauded efforts taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, when in his August 15 speech from Red Fort, he urged citizens and businesses to eliminate us of plastic bags. "We need to launch a war against plastic. reason for which our people have stitched a jute bag," Chairman of Yuva Foundation, Shashi Kala explained.

She also emphasised on how it was extremely important for m to prove it to society that differently-abled people have ir own set of talent and skills and it is upon us to t give m sympathy but confidence and encourment to be self-sufficient and achieve ir goals.

As per estimates by United Nations (UN) India as a country alone produces more than 15,342 tonnes of plastic every day out of which only a limited proportion gets recycled.

PM launches a campaign against plastic bags
In his August 15 independence day speech, Prime Minister asked citizens of India to boycott us of single-use plastic bags. Since n a lot of Bollywood celebrities including Ayushman Khurana, Karan Johar, Aamir Khan and many more have shown ir support to campaign launched by PM.
