A Kolkata couple is on a motorcycle tour to raise Tiger awareness

A couple from Kolkata is on a motorcycle tour across the country to create awareness among people to save the tiger. They have covered 28 states so far

A couple from Kolkata is on a motorcycle tour across the country to create awareness among people to save the tiger. Rathindra Das and Gitanjali Das have covered almost 28 states and 5 Union Territories so far. The couple is visiting various tiger reserves across the country to raise awareness. The name of the campaign is 'Journey For Tiger'. The couple said they talk to people and motivate them to protect wildlife, especially tigers.

In an earlier media statement, Rathindra Das said he was influenced when he was on a campaign to save the environment. “It all started in 2016 when I embarked on a bike tour to create awareness about the environment. I covered many states and visited numerous schools and spoke to students about the importance of the environment," he had said. Further talking about the importance of tigers, he said tigers are important as they are on top of the food chain.

Global tour on cards

The couple also has plans to cover a global tour by February next year. "We will take the bike along and visit 13 other countries where tigers still exist. I have estimated that it will take us over two years, or maybe more to complete the global tour," he said.

Tiger Population reviving 

In July, Prime Minister Narendra Modi released the Tiger consensus report which suggested an increase in the tiger population.  "Today we reaffirm our commitment towards protecting tigers. Results of the just declared Tiger Census would make every Indian happy. Nine years ago it was decided in St. Petersburg that the target of doubling tiger population will be 2022. We completed this target 4 years early," he said.
