Kolkata: Congress leer hir Ranjan Chowdhary, as per sources, on Friday, resigned from post of Congress President of West Bengal. decision was taken this afternoon after Bengal unit of committee that was formed to ascertain and discuss reasons behind party's poor performance in state during recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.
However, re has been no official confirmation from party on wher senior leer's resignation was accepted or not. Speaking about his resignation, Chowdhury said, “Since Mallikarjun Kharge became Congress' national President, re was no State President. Now when full-time President is appointed all will come to know.”

If certain reports are to be believed, Chowdhary dismissed news of his resignation by calling it 'just a rumour,' which he didn't want to talk about. Chowdhury, who was Lok Sabha MP from Baharampur constituency in Murshidab, was defeated by Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate and former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan by around 85,022 votes. While Chowdhury secured 4,39,494 votes, Pathan managed to garner 5,24,516 votes.
