Ahmedabad: 24 hrs after cremation, kin gets call from hospital 'to discharge the member'

In a new gaffe by Civil Hospital in Ahmedab, a family who lost a Covid-19 suspected member kept getting calls of member testing negative and rey to be discharged.
On May 30, Nilesh Nikte, a marketing executive living in Nikol area of Ahmedab was first shocked and n flustered after he kept getting repeated calls of his far-in-law, Devram Bhisker of being tested negative and rey to be taken home. only problem with that was Nikte h cremated his far-in-law 24 hours prior.

Since, according to guidelines, covid-19 suspected and positive patients who lose ir lives in fight against pandemic are covered in PPE and or sheets to avoid contamination of ors performing last rites. Nikte confesses that he was baffled and started questioning wher he h actually cremated his far-in-law or someone else.

On May 29, 70 year old Devrambhai was declared de and body was given to family members. On May 30, Nikte got a call from Civil Hospital authorities at 7am stating that y are free to take Devrambhai back home since his report h come out negative for corona virus. Shocked, entire family rushed to Civil Hospital to sort out matter and authorites figured out that call centre h t been updated of Devrambhai's condition and hence y were sending out calls to Nikte family. But even after this, Nikte stated that he still got repeated calls from civil hospital at 2pm stating again and demanding family to take patient (Devrambhai) back to ir house since he h tested negative.

"This is such mental torture , authorities have idea. I have thing against doctors, but this kind of miscommunication takes a toll on members of patients family. I was in self doubt that wher I actually cremated my far-in-law or someone else. And if so, where is my far-in-law? Even after speaking to authorities, this kept happening," Nikte told Republic TV.
While dressing this issue to media, Gujarat Cancer Research Institute (GCRI) - where Devrambhai was mitted stated that " family was trying to be contacted since evening of death of patient and we were only trying to communicate that patient h tested negative for coronavirus. But death h taken place due to severe diabetes. However, this was a lapse in communication thing else," Dr Shashank Pandya of GCRI.
