After Karsevak arrest, Cong revives case against Dattapeetha activist

Bengaluru: A case against Dattapeetha activist reopened by the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government in Karnataka a day after Karsevak was arrested. 

The case pertains to the demolition of a tomb at Dattapeetha in 2017 in Chikkamagaluru Taluk. 

Congress government reopened the seven years old case. 

The case was closed under Bharataiya Janata Party (BJP) government.

So far, Congress has reopened the cases against 14 people. 

Cases against Tudukur Manju, Shivaraj, Sandesh, Sumanth, Naga, Nagendra Poojary, Mohan, Ashok, Teju, Srinath, Lokesh, Mahendra, Sandeep and Ramu reopened

The activists have been asked to appear before the court on January 8. 

Following the uproar over the arrest of two BJP leaders involved in the 1992 Ayodhya protest, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated on Tuesday that a criminal is forever a criminal unless proven innocent by a court of law.

A significant controversy has erupted in Congress-ruled Karnataka ahead of the January 22 Ram Temple opening, following Srikanth Poojari's detention in connection with previous instances.
